PROSPER CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL THIS YEAR’S CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL IS DEDICATED TO ALL WHO SERVE: PROSPER SALUTES YOU! BY PATTY KENDZIE

The Annual Tradition Continues Saturday, December 3, in downtown Prosper.

Plans are in full swing for the 2016 Prosper Christmas Festival! Set for Saturday, December 3, from 3 pm to 6 pm, the Festival site is historic downtown Prosper. The Festival is the Town’s premier event of the year, a community tradition, featuring entertainment and attractions for all ages. Families flock downtown to enjoy food, fun, exhibits, vendors, entertainment, and of course, Santa Claus, all at no charge. Throughout the event, the community stage comes alive with performances by local school children and community members.

“Residents cherish this annual hometown tradition,” said Julie Shivers, Recreation Services Coordinator, “and we work diligently to bring a joyful celebration to the heart of Town that reflects the warmth of the Prosper community.”

Attendees also will find a diverse group of high caliber vendors at the Festival, who come to town to showcase their unique wares. This is always a popular area! For forms and information, please visit the Parks and Recreation website, www.ProsperParksandRec.org.  Vendor applications are being accepted through November 13.

Local sponsors are the lifeblood of the Prosper Christmas Festival. Various levels of support affording escalating benefits and exposure are available; it’s not too late to be a part of this year’s event!  Each sponsor will receive a window cling to display indicating the Town’s appreciation for supporting the Prosper Christmas Festival. For the complete list of sponsorship benefits, please visit www.ProsperParksandRec.org.

The Town hosts free shuttle service, to and from the Festival. Crowds of more than 6,000 are expected this year, so Festival goers are encouraged to take advantage of the free ride from Reynolds Middle School (700 N. Coleman Street).

Prior to the Festival, beginning at 2:30 pm, the traditional Prosper Rotary and Lions Clubs Christmas Parade will wind down Broadway Street to the downtown site. Revenue raised from parade entry fees benefits the Prosper Police Department’s “Cops with a Claus” Program (now in its 16th year), which provides assistance to those in need during the holiday season. For  information about the parade, please contact  parade@prosperrotary.org. or prosperlionsclub@gmail.com.

The Prosper Christmas Festival is part of the ongoing year-round schedule of events, classes and camps for children and adults offered through the Prosper Parks and Recreation Department.  For more information about Town recreational programs and events, please contact Julie Shivers at julie_shivers@prospertx.org or 972-569-1068.
